The iPhone 16 series is expected to be announced on September 10th. The iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to come with a number of exciting upgrades, including the AI-focused A18 Pro chip and larger displays. Additionally, it is rumored that Apple will add a tetraprism lens with support for 5x optical zoom to the iPhone 16 Pro this year. According to a new report, LG Innotek will be the exclusive supplier of the foldable zoom modules for the upcoming iPhone 16 series. The telephoto tetraprism lens with enhanced zoom capabilities was exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max last year.
According to a report by The Elec (Korea), LG Innotek will be the sole supplier of the foldable zoom module for the initial iPhone 16 Pro series. Last year, the Korean component manufacturer delivered the tetraprism lenses needed for the iPhone 15 Pro Max.
After initial inventory runs out, Apple plans to hire suppliers Foxconn and Cowell to produce the foldable zoom modules to reduce costs, the report said. Sharp is unlikely to deliver camera modules for the iPhone series this year.
The iPhone 16 Pro may have a telephoto tetraprism camera
Apple is expected to equip the smaller iPhone 16 Pro with the iPhone 15 Pro Max’s unique tetra prism lens. This allows iPhone 16 Pro users to take photos with up to 5x optical zoom and 120mm focal length. This is a significant improvement over the iPhone 15 Pro’s 3x optical zoom.
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are said to feature a triple rear camera setup that includes a 48-megapixel primary sensor with f/1.78 aperture and 2x optical zoom. The Pro model supports ProRaw photo capture.
In addition to the camera, the iPhone 16 Pro model could also have a larger display. The Pro model is expected to have a 6.27-inch display, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max is expected to have a 6.86-inch display. The Pro model is said to be powered by the A18 Pro chip.
