Udaipur : ACB unit at Chittorgarh on Wednesday arrested an assistant engineer of Ajmer Vidyut Vitran Nigam Limited posted in Sawa block , after he was caught red handed receiving a bribe of 30,000 rupees. The accused Mahipal Singh Jatav had demanded 1 lakh rupees from the complainant in lieu of transfer of an agricultural power connection.
The complainant Shafi Mohammad gave a complaint to the local ACB department that he had applied for a transfer of power connection which was on his deceased father Ibrahim’s name. Mohammad also had requested for the shift of place for the connection as the earlier farm had been sold and the connection hence had to be shifted to another field nearby. The complainant told the ACB sleuths that the engineer gave lame excuses to cite the complexity of the case and demanded 1 lakh rupees as bribe to get the work done.
Shafi Mohammad agreed to pay the bribe amount in three instalments and informed the ACB. On Tuesday he paid the first instalment of 30 thousand to the engineer which was verified by the department that laid a trap to catch the corrupt officer and on Wednesday when the complainant paid another 30 thousand rupees, the acb team nabbed Jatav at Shambhupura office. ACB inspector Narendra Singh Charan said a search has been made at the engineer’s home and he would be produced before the ACB court in Udaipur on Thursday.
