Udaipur : The 256th birth anniversary of Maharana Bhim Singh Ji, the 67th Ekalin Diwan of Mewar, was celebrated by the Maharana Mewar Charitable Foundation at the Rai Angan of the City Palace.
Dr. Mayank Gupta, CEO of Maharana Mewar Charitable Foundation, Udaipur, said that Maharana Bhim Singh Ji was born on Chaitra Krishna Saptami, Vikram Samvat 1824 (1768 AD). After the death of his father, Maharana Hamir Singh II, Maharana Bhim Singh Ji ascended the throne on Paush Sudi 9, Samvat 1834 (January 7, 1778 AD).
During Maharana’s tenure, Bhim Vilas, Bhim Niwas, Parvati Vilas, Himmat Vilas and Madan Vilas were constructed in the Udaipur Rajmahal. Apart from this, the Govindnathji and Ram Narayan temples in Udaipur and Ghasiyar were built during his reign.
Maharana also issued a silver coin ‘Chandori’ in the name of his sister Chandra Kunwar Bai. His queen Padmavati built a Shiva temple named ‘Bhim Parmeshwar’ on the western bank of Pichola in the name of herself and her husband, which was consecrated on Shravan Sudi 8, Vikram Samvat 1884 (July 31, 1827 AD). After ruling for 50 years, Maharana Bhim Singh Ji passed away on March 30, 1828.
Maharana’s personality was soft-spoken, smiling, kind, gentle, popular, kind to the poor, forgiving and extremely generous. Colonel Tod said that he was a very good advisor, intelligent and a man of decision. Maharana was a patron of poets and scholars and also had a good knowledge of history.
