Jodhpur, October 28 (Udaipur Kiran): The mystery behind the disappearance of a 72-year-old woman from Cherai village in Osian police station limits has been solved. Police have arrested the accused — the woman’s neighbour — from Bihar, revealing that he murdered her to loot her jewellery and fund his addiction to online games, betting, and drugs.
According to police, the accused killed the elderly woman, Champa Devi, to steal her gold and silver ornaments. The accused, identified as Akshay Kumar, was addicted to online gaming and gambling, and committed the crime to arrange money for his activities.
Missing for 19 Days
The case began when Mangilal, a resident of Isharwalon Ki Dhani, lodged a missing report stating that his mother, Champa Devi, had left home in the afternoon to visit a nearby hamlet but never returned. Despite extensive searches, she remained untraceable, prompting police to launch an investigation.
Superintendent of Police Narayan Togas said that during the probe, it was found that the missing woman was wearing gold ornaments on her neck, ears, and nose, along with silver anklets. Suspicion grew when the police examined the neighbour Akshay Kumar’s mobile phone and recovered a deleted photograph showing the same nose ring that belonged to the victim.
Accused Tracked Through Cyber Surveillance
After committing the crime, Akshay Kumar fled the area and kept moving between different states. The cyber team traced his movements through his food delivery app orders. He travelled through several cities, including Abohar, Ambala, Haryana, Delhi, Aligarh, Kanpur, and Lucknow. Police teams followed his digital trail and eventually arrested him from Patna Junction Railway Station.
Confession Reveals Chilling Details
During interrogation, the accused confessed that on October 11, when Champa Devi visited his house, he noticed her gold jewellery and decided to rob her. He attacked her with an iron rod, killing her on the spot. Later that night, he buried her body in a field to hide the evidence.
