New Delhi, June 26: The police in Khayala, New Delhi, have arrested a woman’s husband and father-in-law in connection with her death, which is believed to be a result of dowry harassment.
According to police officials, the initial investigation revealed that the woman had been subjected to continuous mental and physical abuse since her marriage, primarily due to demands for dowry and the absence of children.
On June 24, the police received a call regarding a woman’s death under DD number 46A. Investigating officer Sub-Inspector Mohit Bansal arrived at the scene, where 24-year-old Kajal was found dead in a rented room in Raghubir Nagar. Marks were found on her neck, and a dupatta tied to the window grill was also recovered. The crime team and forensic experts collected necessary evidence from the scene.
Investigations indicated that Kajal had married Rohan approximately three years ago, and the couple had no children. Given the seriousness of the case, the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) of Rajouri Garden was informed. Kajal was taken to Guru Gobind Singh Hospital, where she was declared dead. Statements from her parents and other relatives were recorded in the presence of the SDM.
Based on the allegations made by the family and the findings from the investigation, an FIR was registered at Khayala police station on June 25. A special team was formed under the leadership of the SHO of Khayala and the supervision of the ACP of Tilak Nagar to apprehend the accused. Utilizing local intelligence, technical evidence, and other clues, the police arrested Rohan (30), who sells utensils, and his father Rajesh (56).
During the police investigation, it was revealed that Kajal had faced ongoing harassment regarding dowry and money since her marriage. Family members alleged that she was subjected to mental and physical torture when their demands were not met. Additionally, she faced taunts and harassment for not having children even after three years of marriage.
Authorities believe that the continuous harassment led Kajal to take this tragic step. Investigations into other aspects of the case are still ongoing.
