Earthquake Hits Pakistan with Magnitude 5.8
A 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck near Khuzdar, Pakistan, causing panic but no immediate reports of damage.
Khuzdar, October 17 (Udaipur Kiran) : A strong earthquake shook Pakistan on Saturday morning, registering a magnitude of 5.8 on the Richter scale. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), the tremors were felt at 10:37 AM, with the epicenter located near Khuzdar in central Balochistan, approximately 15 kilometers below the surface.
Witnesses reported a sense of panic as people rushed out of their homes to safety in open areas. Fortunately, there have been no immediate reports of damage or injuries following the quake.
This seismic activity follows a series of tremors experienced in the region recently, particularly around Afghanistan. Earlier this month, Afghanistan recorded a 5.3 magnitude earthquake on October 1, also with no reported damage.
The NCS noted that this is not the first instance of seismic activity in the area. On September 7, a quake measuring 4.1 was recorded at a depth of 130 kilometers, again with no reports of harm. In August, a 4.9 magnitude quake in eastern Nangarhar province resulted in injuries to 15 individuals.
In June, a more significant quake of 6.2 magnitude was felt across northern India, including Delhi and Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the region’s vulnerability to seismic events.
