Vi Launches New Prepaid Family Feature: Share Data Among Four Members and Get Up to 10% Off Recharges

October 16, 2026: Vodafone Idea (Vi) has introduced a new family feature for its prepaid customers, allowing up to four mobile numbers to form a group and share mobile data. The facility is designed to help family members transfer data to one another when someone runs short of their daily internet allowance.

One of the key benefits is that family members do not need to be in the same city to use the service. They can share data even when they are in different cities or telecom circles across India.

The new feature also offers family group members discounts of up to 10% on eligible recharges made through the Vi app.

What Does Vi’s New Family Feature Offer?

Vi’s prepaid family feature comes with several benefits for customers.

1. A group of up to four numbers: Each family group can include one primary member and three additional members. For example, a user can add the mobile numbers of their parents and sibling to create a four-member family group.

2. Transfer 500MB of data: Members can transfer 500MB of mobile data to another member in a single transaction, subject to the applicable conditions.

3. Data sharing across India: Family members can share data even if they are living in different cities, states or telecom circles.

4. Up to 10% discount on recharges: Eligible family group members can receive discounts of up to 10% when recharging through the Vi app.

Rules for Sharing Mobile Data

Although the feature allows members to transfer data, Vi has set limits on how frequently the service can be used.

According to the reported conditions:

  • Transfer limit: A member can transfer 500MB of data in one transaction.
  • Daily limit: Data sharing is permitted once a day.
  • Weekly limit: A maximum of two transfers is allowed in a week.
  • Monthly limit: Members can share data up to four times in a calendar month.
  • Minimum data balance: The sender must have at least 600MB of data available before initiating a transfer.
  • Active plans required: Both the sender and the recipient must have active plans with validity.

These restrictions mean customers should check their available data balance and plan validity before attempting a transfer.

Shared Data Expires at 11:59 PM

One important condition is that the transferred data must be used on the same day. According to the reported rules, the shared data expires at 11:59 PM on the day of transfer.

It cannot be carried forward to the next day. Customers should therefore transfer data only when the recipient is likely to use it before the daily deadline.

How to Get Up to 10% Off on Recharges

The new feature also provides an opportunity to save money on eligible prepaid recharges.

Family group members need to recharge through the Vi app to access the applicable family discount. However, the discount may not be available on every recharge plan.

Customers should check the offers displayed in the app at checkout before completing their payment to confirm the eligible discount and final recharge price.

What Vi Customers Should Know

Vi’s new prepaid family feature combines limited data transfers with potential savings on recharges. It may be useful for families whose members use different amounts of mobile data or live in different cities.

However, users should keep the daily expiry rule, transfer limits, minimum data balance and active-plan requirements in mind before using the facility.
