New York, September 5 (Kiran News) — World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka staged a strong comeback to beat American star Jessica Pegula and book her place in the US Open 2025 final. In a thrilling semifinal played on Friday (IST), the Belarusian secured a 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory.

The match, seen as a rematch of last year’s final, began with Pegula in control. She claimed the opening set with just three unforced errors, capitalising on an early break exchange to silence Sabalenka’s aggressive start.
However, the World No. 1 bounced back in style. Sabalenka struck 43 winners and eight aces, overpowering the home favourite to level the contest. She broke Pegula’s serve early in the second set and rode the momentum to force a decider.
In the final set, Sabalenka broke in the opening game and showcased resilience by saving three break points in the sixth. Pegula fought hard, saving two match points late in the contest, but Sabalenka sealed victory with a forehand winner, celebrating passionately as she advanced.
Sabalenka will now face the winner of the other semifinal between four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka of Japan and American eighth seed Amanda Anisimova.
