Mexico City, September 4 (Kiran News): The United States and Mexico on Wednesday reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen security cooperation, intensify action against cartels, and curb cross-border smuggling and fuel theft.
The announcement came during US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visit to Mexico City, where he met President Claudia Sheinbaum and Foreign Minister Juan Ramón de la Fuente.
While the two sides did not announce a formal agreement — something President Sheinbaum had been seeking in recent weeks — both governments agreed to establish a “High-Level Implementation Mechanism” to ensure that the new commitments are effectively put into practice.
The US and Mexico are already working jointly against cartels and fentanyl trafficking. In a joint statement, the two countries stressed that their partnership is based on the principles of reciprocity, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity, shared but differentiated responsibility, and mutual trust.
