UK Police Did Not Share 2019 Letter About Thomas Markle’s Allegations
The Metropolitan Police confirmed it received a letter regarding Thomas Markle Sr. but did not share its content with other law enforcement.

The Metropolitan Police in the UK has stated that a letter containing allegations against Thomas Markle Sr., father of Meghan Markle, was not shared with other law enforcement agencies. The letter had been received in January 2019, indicating concerns about alleged offenses outside the UK.
The police confirmed this information in response to media attention following reports that Thomas Markle Sr. is under investigation in the Philippines for allegedly possessing child sexual abuse material. Philippine officials indicated that these images were reportedly discovered on devices belonging to Markle Sr. after a complaint was made by his son, Thomas Markle Jr.
In a statement, Meghan Markle expressed her distress regarding the allegations made against her father, saying, “I am deeply distressed at the news that has come to light in the last 24 hours, and my thoughts are with any children who may have been harmed.” Meghan clarified that she first learned of the allegations in 2018 when a letter was shared with her by the Metropolitan Police. She described the content of this letter as troubling and disturbing.
The Metropolitan Police noted that while the letter was sent to the office of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for awareness, it was not distributed to other agencies for further investigation. The police are reviewing their handling of the situation and may refer themselves to the Independent Office for Police Conduct for scrutiny.
Authorities in the Philippines are currently conducting a forensic examination of Markle’s computers, while the Philippine Department of Justice confirmed that it is investigating the matter. According to reports, the elder Markle has denied all allegations, labeling them as “sick lies” and expressing shock over the accusations from his son. “I could never do what I’m being accused of,” he stated.
As the investigation continues, Meghan’s spokesperson emphasized that any misunderstanding regarding the timeline of events was an understandable consequence of the passage of time, as she attempted to recall past communications with the police.
