Suriya’s ‘Scene’ Earns Rs 22 Crore on Opening Day, Outperforming Competitors
Suriya's film 'Scene' opened with a collection of Rs 22 crore on its first day, outperforming local competitors.

NEW DELHI, Nov 7: Suriya’s latest film, ‘Scene’, opened strongly at the box office, earning Rs 22 crore on its first day and surpassing other local releases like ‘Karuppu’ and ‘Vishwanath & Sons’.
The film is directed by Jithu Madhavan, marking his debut in Tamil cinema. It is described as a light-hearted investigative thriller featuring Suriya as DSP Inbaraj, a detective whose behavior has drastically changed due to a hidden secret. This transformation includes a disheveled appearance and a habit of smoking, which annoys his colleagues.
Despite having left the police force, Inbaraj is drawn back into action when a murder reminiscent of a past case surfaces. He embarks on a self-directed investigation with the help of his assistant Maya, played by Nazriya Nazim.
Initial audience reactions are positive, praising the film’s engaging narrative and Suriya’s performance. As one reviewer noted, “Madhavan delivers a fun performance as a brilliant yet eccentric detective.” The film balances humor with darker themes, striking a chord with viewers.
‘Scene’ draws inspiration from a Chinese film directed by Johnnie To, although the specific title remains undisclosed to preserve surprises within the plot. Critics also noted the film’s playful dialogue and situational humor, particularly its comedic references to Suriya’s previous works.
While the film has received favorable reviews, some criticism exists regarding character depth, especially concerning the antagonist, Eeswaran, portrayed by Naslen. Reviewers expressed a desire for more background on him, highlighting his intriguing nature but limited screen presence.
As the film progresses into its final act, the tension escalates between Inbaraj and Eeswaran, culminating in a gripping encounter that showcases the strengths of both characters.
