With summer travel to Europe becoming increasingly popular among UAE residents, securing a Schengen visa appointment has become a major challenge due to high demand and limited availability. Many travelers hoping to escape the UAE heat and enjoy Europe’s mild weather, long daylight hours, and rich cultural experiences are now facing difficulties in booking visa slots.
As per travel industry experts, appointment slots for Schengen visas are currently unavailable for certain countries like France and Spain, though some slots remain open for April in nations like Czech Republic, Austria, and Sweden.
According to Subair Thekepurathvalappil, senior manager at Wisefox Tourism, visa appointments for popular European destinations are expected to open in batches by May or June, allowing travelers to plan their July and August vacations accordingly.
“Currently, a few countries, like the Czech Republic, Austria, and Sweden, have available appointments for April. However, countries such as France and Spain have no open slots at the moment,” said Subair.
“These will be available in batches, and we expect appointments for these countries to open by May or June.”
Early Visa Application: A Must for Summer Travel
Given that Schengen visa processing times range from one to three weeks, applying early is essential to avoid disruptions. Travel agents are advising UAE residents to secure their appointments at the earliest opportunity to ensure a smooth visa application process.
Key Reminders for Schengen Visa Applicants:
✔ Limited slots for France, Spain, and the Netherlands – Book early to secure an appointment.
✔ Visa centers like VFS handle applications – Be prepared with all necessary documents.
✔ Poland requires direct embassy submission – Additional documents like a company NoC, bank statements, and insurance may be needed.
✔ Biometric data collection is mandatory – Passports must be submitted for embassy processing.
“Slots are limited in April and May, and the demand for Schengen visas is very high, especially for countries like France, Spain, and the Netherlands,” noted Mir Wasim Raja, manager at Galadari International Travel Services.
“People usually travel for about one to two weeks during the summer, and booking now is the best way to ensure they get their visas in time.”
Travel Documents Must Be in Order
Apart from securing an appointment, travelers must double-check the validity of their documents to avoid any last-minute issues.

🔹 UAE residence visa – Must be valid for at least three months beyond the return date.
🔹 Passport validity – Must be valid for at least six months from the date of return to the UAE.
🔹 Supporting documents – Flight tickets, hotel reservations, travel insurance, financial proof, and NoC from employer (if required).
“Apart from having other travel documents, travelers must ensure that their UAE visa is valid for at least three months and their passport for at least six months when returning to the UAE from a Schengen country,” Subair advised.
