Trump’s ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ Passed by US Congress, Set to Become Law on July 4

Washington, July 4 – In a major legislative win for former US President Donald Trump, the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ has officially cleared the House of Representatives and is now headed to Trump’s desk for signature. Passed by a narrow margin in the Republican-controlled House on Thursday, the bill marks a crucial step toward fulfilling Trump’s ambitious domestic agenda — which includes tax cuts, slashing social safety programs, and ramping up defense and border security spending.

One Big Beautiful Bill

According to reports by The New York Times and other American media outlets, while the bill’s passage represents a political victory for Trump and the Republican Party, it also comes with significant electoral risk ahead of next year’s midterm elections. Republicans who supported the bill — particularly those in swing districts — may now face public backlash over proposed cuts to public welfare programs.

Close Vote and Fierce Debate in the House

The bill was passed with a tight 218–214 vote, with all but two Republicans voting in favor and Democrats uniformly opposing it. Democratic Representative Hakeem Jeffries of New York delivered a record-breaking 8-hour and 46-minute speech against the bill, calling it a “full-frontal assault on Americans’ healthcare.” He began his speech at 4:53 a.m. and concluded at 1:38 p.m., setting the record for the longest speech in House history.

Now that both chambers of Congress have approved the bill, it has been sent to President Trump for his signature. Once signed, it will officially become law.

Key Provisions of the ‘Big Beautiful Bill’

The legislation includes:

  • Major tax reductions

  • Increased spending on military and mass deportation infrastructure

  • Significant cuts to Medicare and other welfare programs

  • A projected $4.5 trillion reduction in revenue over 10 years

  • $1.2 trillion cuts in government spending

  • An increase of $3.3 trillion in national debt, according to the Joint Committee on Taxation

While the bill helps delay immediate concerns of a U.S. debt default, economic analysts warn that it could worsen long-term fiscal challenges. It is also expected to halt dozens of government-backed green energy initiatives and cut back on food and health programs.

Strong Reactions Across the Board

Milton Jones, International President of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, expressed disappointment, calling the bill “devastating” and “economically reckless.” He criticized it for ignoring the needs of working families and introducing cuts that are both “cruel and short-sighted.”

Trump Calls It the Best Gift on Independence Day

Former President Donald Trump celebrated the bill’s passage, saying it delivers on key campaign promises — including eliminating the estate tax (“death tax”) for millions of families. “There could be no better gift on America’s Independence Day than this bill,” Trump said. “With this, every major promise I made to the people of Iowa in 2024 is now fulfilled.”

Signing Ceremony Scheduled for July 4

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that President Trump is scheduled to sign the bill at 5 PM on Friday, July 4, during the Independence Day celebrations at the White House, which will include a public picnic and festivities.

VP JD Vance Congratulates the Nation

Vice President JD Vance also welcomed the bill’s passage. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote: “Congratulations to all. At times, I doubted whether we could make it by July 4 — but we did it.”
