Perth, October 16 (Udaipur Kiran): Team India has arrived in Perth ahead of the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia, set to begin on October 19. Senior players Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and newly appointed ODI captain Shubman Gill landed in the Australian city on Thursday morning.
Along with them, K.L. Rahul, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Arshdeep Singh, Harshit Rana, and Nitish Kumar Reddy also reached Perth as part of the ODI squad. Due to a delay in their flight, the Indian contingent arrived later than scheduled, accompanied by several members of the support staff.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir and other members of the coaching team had departed from Delhi on Wednesday evening and are expected to join the squad later in the day.
The first ODI will be played in Perth on October 19, followed by the second match in Adelaide on October 23, and the final ODI in Sydney on October 25. After the 50-over series, India and Australia will play a five-match T20I series starting October 29.
This series holds special significance as it marks Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli’s first international appearance since India’s Champions Trophy victory in March. It will also be Shubman Gill’s debut series as India’s ODI captain, adding extra intrigue about the team’s future leadership transition.
Both Rohit and Kohli have retired from Test and T20I cricket, but speculation continues that the two stalwarts plan to play until the 2027 ODI World Cup.
Captain Shubman Gill has also expressed his admiration for the senior duo, stating, “The experience and contribution these two legends bring to Indian cricket is unmatched. Players with such skill, quality, and consistency are rare even on the global stage.”
Gill had earlier hinted, during the West Indies Test series, that Rohit and Kohli could remain integral to the ODI setup until the next World Cup cycle.
