Wellington, 22 December (Udaipur Kiran) – New Zealand’s experienced opener Suzie Bates will be sidelined from cricket for the next three months due to a serious injury. She has suffered a severe tear in her quadriceps muscle, ruling her out of the domestic summer season and keeping her off the field until March.
The injury occurred last month while Bates was fielding during a Shield match. Subsequent scans confirmed a significant muscle tear, requiring approximately three months of rehabilitation for the former captain.
Because of this injury, Suzie Bates will miss the remaining domestic summer fixtures for Otago as well as the upcoming home series against Zimbabwe in February. Her focus now is set on making a comeback in the white-ball series against South Africa in March.
Bates expressed her disappointment, saying, “Missing this summer season is very frustrating for me. I was really looking forward to another season with the Sparks, especially playing in the Super Smash. Now, my entire focus is on returning to the field for the White Ferns in March.”
The New Zealand team management remains hopeful that Bates will regain full fitness in time to strengthen the team against South Africa.
