New Delhi / Udaipur, 2 September (Kiran News) – The Supreme Court on Tuesday dismissed appeals seeking cancellation of bail granted to Mohammed Javed, one of the accused in the 2022 Udaipur tailor beheading case. The pleas were filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Yash Teli, son of the deceased tailor Kanhaiya Lal.

A bench comprising Justices M M Sundresh and Satish Chandra Sharma refused to interfere with the Rajasthan High Court’s order that had granted bail to Javed. During the hearing, Teli’s counsel argued that Javed’s alleged role was significant, as he was accused of providing information about Kanhaiya Lal’s whereabouts to the assailants. The petitioners contended that the High Court should have considered the seriousness of the offence in greater depth before granting bail.
According to the NIA, Javed worked in a shop near Kanhaiya Lal’s and allegedly informed the attackers about his presence and location at the time of the crime. The case, which shocked the nation, involved two main accused, Mohammad Riyaz and Mohammad Gause, who hacked Kanhaiya Lal to death at his shop in Udaipur’s Hathipole area on June 28, 2022. The assailants also filmed the act and uploaded the video online.
The Supreme Court’s decision means the bail granted by the Rajasthan High Court to Mohammed Javed will remain in place. The incident continues to be investigated by the NIA.
