Bhopal, March 27: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for several districts in Madhya Pradesh, including Gwalior, Datia, Bhind, Morena, Singrauli, Sidhi, Rewa, Satna, Shahdol, Umaria, Dindori, Katni, Jabalpur, Panna, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, and Niwari, predicting scattered rain, thunderstorms, and lightning.
Strong winds with speeds of 30-40 km/h are also expected in these areas, while the rest of the state is likely to experience dry weather.
Officials from the IMD Bhopal center have advised residents to stay indoors during storms, avoid taking shelter under trees, and unplug electrical appliances to reduce the risk of lightning strikes. Farmers are recommended to postpone irrigation, fertilizer application, and pesticide spraying to protect crops and livestock from sudden weather changes.
The IMD reported dry weather in Madhya Pradesh over the past 24 hours, with a heatwave observed in Narmadapuram.
Temperatures in several divisions, including Bhopal, Ujjain, Gwalior, Chambal, and Jabalpur, have been above normal, with maximum temperatures ranging from 1.7 to 2.7 degrees Celsius higher than average. The highest maximum temperature recorded was 41.6 degrees Celsius in Narmadapuram, while the lowest was 14.2 degrees Celsius in Pachmarhi (Narmadapuram district).
Other hot areas include Ratlam (39.6 degrees Celsius), Vidisha (39.1 degrees Celsius), and Berasia in Bhopal (39.0 degrees Celsius). In contrast, hill stations like Pachmarhi and Amarkantak recorded relatively lower temperatures, with maximums around 32.4 degrees Celsius and 32.5 degrees Celsius, respectively.
A significant rise in minimum temperatures has also been observed, particularly in Bhopal and Gwalior divisions, where it increased by 2.3 to 3.0 degrees Celsius. Cities like Kannod (24.9 degrees Celsius) and Prithvipur (23.5 degrees Celsius) recorded the highest night temperatures, while Pachmarhi and Karondi (Katni) remained cooler.
According to the weather forecast for March 28 in Bhopal, the sky is expected to be mostly clear, with maximum and minimum temperatures around 38 degrees Celsius and 20 degrees Celsius, respectively. Wind speeds are predicted to be between 12-14 km/h.
As temperatures rise, the IMD emphasizes the importance of staying hydrated and exercising caution during outdoor activities.
