Samsung may offer seven years of software support for its new Galaxy flagships, according to an exclusive report from Android Headlines. It’s unclear whether this includes security patches or a full Android and One UI update, but the latter could signal a major shift in the Android ecosystem and lead to other smartphone makers following suit.
The move comes after Google announced seven years of software and security updates for the Pixel 8 series last October. At the time, Samsung mentioned expanding security updates for its devices, but remained silent on Android and One UI updates.
Now the question is whether Samsung’s previous flagships such as the Galaxy S23 series and the Galaxy Z Fold 5/Z Flip 5 will also benefit from this expanded software support? As SamMobile pointed out, Samsung may want to include its 2023 flagships in this effort, following a similar pattern when it increased the number of Android and One UI upgrades on the Galaxy S21 from three to four. Free artificial intelligence features
According to a report from Android Headlines, Samsung will offer Galaxy AI features for free until at least 2025. However, there is also speculation that some of these features could remain hidden behind a paywall after 2026. If true, it could set a precedent for the industry, even though brands like Google are already offering a full suite of AI features for free on the Pixel 8 series.
Samsung Galaxy Unboxing Event
The Unpacked event takes place on January 17th. The Galaxy S24’s leak hatches have been open since last year, revealing everything from the materials used in the new flagship to the AI-powered camera tricks the new flagship can perform. Meanwhile, Samsung is allowing users to pre-order the Galaxy S24 ahead of its official launch. The Next Galaxy VIPPASS is available for Rs 1,999. Pre-book your device and enjoy benefits worth over Rs 5,000.
