Udaipur: The Pacific Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Hospital, Udaipur, has successfully performed a rare bronchoscopic procedure to remove a broncholith, marking another milestone in advanced respiratory care.

PIMS Chairman Ashish Agarwal shared that a 65-year-old male patient was recently admitted to the Respiratory Medicine Department with lower left lung consolidation. Due to persistent and inconclusive sputum analysis, doctors decided to proceed with bronchoscopy.
During the procedure, a stone-like lesion was detected in the mucosa of the left main bronchus. Using biopsy forceps and a Dormia basket en bloc, the medical team successfully extracted the broncholith. This is an exceptionally rare case, with only a handful of similar bronchoscopic broncholith removal procedures documented globally. Notably, two such cases have now been successfully treated at PIMS, Udaipur.
The surgical team included Dr. Ramakrishna (HOD), Dr. Mohanan (AP), Dr. Sanidhya Tank (AP), Dr. Karan Raj Singhal (AP), Dr. Dikshant Chaudhary (AP), along with resident doctors Dr. Aniruddh (SR), Dr. Gurmehar Singh Thethi (JR-3), Dr. Arpit Johar (JR-3), Dr. Shubhneesh Chaudhary (JR-2), Dr. Gaurang Singh Rajput (JR-2). Additionally, endoscopy technician Giriraj and nursing staff member Rahul played a crucial role in the procedure’s success.
