Rain Disrupts Sydney Test, England Ends Day at 211/3

Sydney witnessed the start of the final Ashes Test between Australia and England on Sunday. England won the toss and chose to bat first, reaching a score of 211 for 3 wickets by the close of the first day.

The day’s play was heavily affected by rain and poor light conditions, allowing only 45 overs to be bowled.

England’s innings began with Jack Crawley and Ben Duckett at the crease. The opening pair put together a 35-run partnership before Crawley was dismissed for 16 and Duckett for 27 runs. Jacob Bethell then scored 51 runs before getting out, putting England at risk of losing momentum after the third wicket fell at 51 runs.

However, Joe Root and Harry Brook steadied the innings, forming an unbeaten partnership of 160 runs for the fourth wicket so far. Both batsmen displayed impressive shots and maintained a strong rhythm between wickets. At stumps, Joe Root was unbeaten on 72 runs off 103 balls, including 8 fours, while Harry Brook remained not out on 78 runs from 92 balls, hitting 6 fours and 1 six.

The umpires decided to end the day’s play as the weather failed to improve despite the wait. On the second day, all eyes will be on Root and Brook as they aim to convert their starts into centuries.

From the Australian bowling side, Mitchell Starc, Michael Neser, and Scott Boland took one wicket each.

For Australia, this match marks the final Test for batsman Usman Khawaja. Australia currently leads the series 3-1.
