Powering India since 2014: Union Power Minister RK Singh speaks to DD News

Union Power minister RK Singh spoke exclusively to DD News on the fast pace of development in the power sector over the last four years.

The Modi govt has completed four years in power. The union ministers have been an account of their work through your channel DD News in a series of interviews. Union Power Minister R K Singh has said that since the NDA govt came to power at the Centre in 2014, the power sector has undergone a transformation & poor families have got free electricity connections.


— India has been 100% electrified 

— Electricity has reached 82% homes 

— Work to electrify remaining 3 crore 13 lakh homes is progressing rapidly

— The goal is to electrify each home in the country by December, 2018

— Electricity will be supplied 24X7 by 2019

— 30 crore LED bulbs have been distributed in the country under the Ujala scheme

— Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gram Jyoti Yojana has been launched for rural areas

–16,320 crore rupees have been spent through Saubhagya to connect urban & rural homes

— Efforts are on to further strengthen the power infrastructure

The govt is also working to increase transparency and improve customer experience. Several mobile apps and websites have been launched such as Urja app and Saubhagya portal. Efforts are also on to improve billing and collection efficiency.
