Police Busts Human Trafficking Ring, Rescues Five Newborns

New Delhi, June 18: The Delhi Police has uncovered an interstate human trafficking ring involved in the illegal trade of newborns. Thirteen individuals, including traffickers, middlemen, buyers, and a hospital owner, have been arrested in connection with this case. During the operation, police rescued six newborns from Delhi, Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh.

The investigation revealed a well-organized gang that was actively trafficking children across Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat. The hospital owner allegedly assisted in illegal abortions and helped procure fake documents for the transfer of newborns.

Initially, a sum of ₹20,000 was charged as a decoy operation fee, followed by a payment of ₹2,92,400 for the purchase of newborns. Following police inquiries, a suspect supplying newborns from Gujarat was apprehended.

On June 5, after receiving a tip-off, police initiated a decoy operation near RK Ashram Marg in the Paharganj area, where they arrested Jyoti alias Kamlesh, Shalu, and Lalit while they were attempting to sell newborns. One newborn, just four to five days old, was successfully rescued during the operation.

The police have registered a case under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Juvenile Justice Act at the Paharganj police station. The investigation has been assigned to the Operations Unit of the Central District, led by W/SI Pragati.

Further investigations revealed that Jyoti was the main accused, sourcing children from various suppliers, including one identified as Saibabhai Gamar alias Kalia, who procured newborns from Gujarat and Rajasthan. Based on information from Jyoti, two other suspects, identified as Pratibha and Vipin, were also arrested while they were arranging for additional newborns. Police recovered ₹2,92,400 from them, believed to be linked to the purchase of newborns.

Additionally, the name Omvati, a domestic worker in Gurugram, surfaced during the investigation. She is accused of mediating in the trafficking and played a crucial role in arranging the newborns, which were then sold to the trafficking ring.

Dr. Viveki, the owner of Hira Multi-Specialty Hospital located in the Begumpur area of Delhi, was also implicated in the investigation. The hospital reportedly played a significant role in the trafficking operation, as all newborns were kept there before being sold to childless couples.

The investigation uncovered that forged documents, including hospital records and reproductive documents, were created to facilitate the transfer of newborns. The gang operated through a well-established network involving suppliers, middlemen, drivers, and buyers.

Information suggests that newborns were sourced from various regions and handed over to members of the gang in Delhi. Once in the city, the newborns were hidden, medically supervised, and prepared for illegal transfer to potential buyers.

This network identified childless couples seeking children, and it is alleged that fake records and supporting documents were created to establish legal parentage and facilitate the transfer of the infants, which were sold for substantial sums of money.
