Udaipur, August 25: In a significant breakthrough, police in Chhattisgarh’s Sakti district have arrested four individuals linked to a theft gang that targeted two houses in the village of Sonthi on the same night. The police recovered stolen gold and silver jewelry from the suspects, along with other valuables.
The first incident involved the home of Kamla Bai Yadav, a resident of Ward Number 11 in Sonthi. Kamla Bai reported to the police that on the night of July 28, after having dinner with her family, they all went to sleep. Upon waking around 3 AM, she discovered that her wardrobe was open. Upon investigation, she found that gold and silver jewelry, cash, and important documents including bank passbooks and Aadhaar cards were missing.
Kamla Bai also noted that her son Krishna Charan Yadav’s mobile phone was stolen, along with around 20 packets of cigarettes from a nearby snack shop. Evidence suggested that the thief entered through the back door after removing a wooden stick used to secure it and escaped by breaking the lock on the main door. Interestingly, the thief had also consumed half a bottle of water from the fridge.
The second incident occurred at the residence of Devaram Patel, who lives behind the Kaanji House in Sonthi. Devaram stated that after dinner on the same night, he had locked the main gate of the boundary wall. However, when he woke up around 8 AM, he found the iron door of the veranda and the cupboard open. Stolen items included a gold necklace weighing approximately 15 grams, silver anklets, and rings, with a total estimated value of around ₹295,000.
Additional Superintendent of Police Pankaj Patel noted that the similarity in the modus operandi of both thefts led the Sakti police to believe they were the work of the same gang. Utilizing technical evidence and informants, the police tracked down suspects Balveer Satnami, Flesh Sahu, and Sameer Daniel, all residents of Sonthi.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to committing the thefts in collaboration with another accomplice. They revealed that they had divided the stolen goods and hidden them at different locations. Some of the stolen jewelry was reportedly sold to Amit Agarwal, a jeweler in Sakti.
Following the investigation, police recovered all the stolen items, with an estimated total value of around ₹385,000. On August 24, all four suspects were arrested: Balveer Satnami (22), Flesh Sahu (26), Sameer Daniel (19), and Amit Agarwal (45).
