This November, the night sky will offer spectacular celestial events, including a supermoon and a rare alignment of Mars and Jupiter. The supermoon, known as the full beaver supermoon, will occur on November 24, appearing significantly larger and brighter due to its proximity to Earth.

Before this, skywatchers can witness Mars and Jupiter in close proximity around midnight on November 2 and 3. The two planets will align closely with the moon, which will lie just above them. This event allows for a clear view of the trio alongside Regulus, the brightest star in the Leo constellation. According to National Geographic, “the moon, Mars, and Jupiter will appear in a tight line above the eastern horizon.”

November features at least three meteor showers. The Southern and Northern Taurids will be visible, peaking respectively from November 4 to 5 and November 11 to 12. Observers can expect around five meteors per hour from these showers, with optimal viewing conditions facilitated by a dim moon.

The Leonid meteor shower will also occur throughout the month, peaking from November 17 to 18, known for its bright streaks. Ideal viewing of these events will occur post-midnight, especially in areas away from city lights.

Other celestial highlights include a predawn appearance of Mars and Jupiter around November 14 to 16, where they will be separated by just one degree in the sky. Mercury and Venus will also be prominently visible during this time, particularly around November 20, when Mercury reaches its greatest western elongation.

Lastly, Uranus will be particularly visible on November 25, reaching opposition relative to the sun, making it easier to spot with the aid of telescopes or binoculars.
