Navratri Discourse Highlights Service, Dedication and Equality Through Stories of Maa Kalaratri and Maa Saraswati
Udaipur, October 17, 2026: A message of service, dedication, humility and respect for persons with disabilities was shared during the Shrimad Devi Bhagwat Katha and ‘Apno Se Apni Baat’ programme held at the World of Humanity at Seva Tirth, Narayan Seva Sansthan, in Udaipur.

Prashant Agrawal, president of Narayan Seva Sansthan, spoke about the significance of Maa Kalaratri and stories associated with Maa Saraswati, particularly her connection with knowledge and speech. Through these accounts, he highlighted the importance of selfless service, humility and treating persons with disabilities with dignity.
Stories Highlight the Importance of Humility and Sacrifice
During the discourse, the episode involving Indra, the king of the gods, and Devguru Brihaspati was discussed to explain how arrogance can cause people to forget the importance of respecting their teachers and elders. Following the insult to Brihaspati, the gods faced several difficulties.
The story of Maharishi Dadhichi’s sacrifice was also narrated, highlighting the spirit of selflessness and the importance of dedicating oneself to public welfare.
Referring to the story of Vritrasura, Agrawal emphasised that regardless of the circumstances, individuals can choose a noble path through their conduct and thoughts.
Maa Saraswati’s Worship and the Importance of Knowledge
The discourse also covered Maharishi Yajnavalkya’s pursuit of knowledge. After returning the knowledge he had received at the command of his guru, Vaishampayana, Yajnavalkya worshipped Maa Saraswati and subsequently attained knowledge again.
The dialogue between Maharishi Yajnavalkya and Maitreyi was cited to explain why self-knowledge and wisdom are more important than material wealth.
Respectful Language Can Strengthen Dignity and Confidence
Special emphasis was placed on the purity of speech and the use of sensitive, respectful language.
The speakers highlighted the need to avoid insulting or pitying expressions when referring to others and instead use words that reflect dignity and equality.
The discourse stressed that persons with disabilities should not be described as helpless or objects of pity. Treating them with respect, warmth and equality is a social responsibility.
The message concluded that the true worship of Maa Saraswati becomes meaningful when one’s words help others feel respected, valued and confident.
