Monsoon to Withdraw from South Bengal by October 14, Winter Chill to Follow

Kolkata, October 8 (Udaipur Kiran): After continuous rainfall and disruptions due to low pressure and cyclonic circulation, weather conditions in Bengal are set to change. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon is likely to withdraw from South Bengal between October 12 and 14, marking the beginning of cooler weather in the region.

Monsoon

Following the withdrawal, temperatures will start to drop, and residents will gradually experience pleasant and cooler conditions. The IMD forecast indicates that by the end of next week, minimum temperatures in Kolkata and nearby areas may settle between 20°C and 22°C, while in western districts, it could range from 18°C to 20°C.

Similarly, North Bengal is expected to bid farewell to the monsoon between October 10 and 13. With clearer skies, views of Kanchenjunga from the Darjeeling hills will become visible. In Siliguri, Sonada, and Sukna, the monsoon is likely to completely retreat by October 15.

As per departmental estimates, winter conditions will become noticeable between October 25 and November 5. During this period, mornings will turn cool, days will remain mildly warm, and evenings will be pleasant.

Light Rain Expected Till October 10

The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain with lightning in parts of South Bengal, including Jhargram, West and East Medinipur, Howrah, Hooghly, Nadia, North and South 24 Parganas, and Kolkata between October 8 and 10.

Due to a cyclonic circulation over Jharkhand, scattered rainfall is expected in several parts of South Bengal till Friday. However, rainfall is likely to decrease from Saturday. If no new low-pressure system forms over the Bay of Bengal, the weather will gradually turn dry with reduced humidity.

In Darjeeling, Jalpaiguri, and Cooch Behar, light to moderate rainfall may continue till Thursday, after which rain activity will subside.

In Kolkata, skies will remain mostly cloudy today, with chances of scattered light to moderate rain and lightning over the next 24 hours, though heavy rainfall is not expected.
