MG Windsor EV With 331km Range, 80 Connected Car Features Launched in India: All You Need to Know

The MG Windsor Electric Vehicle (EV) was launched in India on Wednesday. The British automaker says the Windsor EV is the world’s first intelligent “CUV,” or crossover. The name comes from Windsor Castle in England. It is based on the company’s Pure EV platform and is a modified version of the Wulingyun EV sold in Indonesia and other markets, with a range of up to 331 km, aero lounge seats and an Infinity View glass roof, as well as artificial intelligence-based voice commands (AI) and more than 80 connectivity features with i-SMART technology.

It is the first vehicle to be launched since the inception of JSW MG Motor India, a joint venture between India’s JSW Group and China-based SAIC Motor Corporation. The MG ZS is an option in the company’s electric vehicle lineup.

MG Windsor EV price in India

The MG Windsor EV price in India starts at Rs. 9999 million (ex-showroom). However, the company states that this is merely an introductory price. Advance reservations are available now and exclusive test drives of the car begin on September 26th. Bookings for the MG Windsor EV begin on October 3rd.

This product is available in three types: Excite, Exclusive and Essence and in four colors: Starburst Black, Pearl White, Clay Beige and Turquoise Green. With the launch of the Windsor EV, MG also introduced a Battery Ownership as a Service (BaaS) program. This eliminates the upfront cost of batteries and buyers only have to pay for usage. This program starts at 500 Tomans. The battery works 3.5 times per kilometer.

The original owner of the MG Windsor EV can benefit from a lifetime battery guarantee. The company is also offering one year of free public charging through the eHUB by MG program. MG Windsor electric vehicle owners also benefit from a 3-60 month warranty purchase plan, allowing them to retain 60% of their vehicle’s value for up to 3 years or 45,000km.

MG Windsor EV Design

According to the company, the MG Windsor EV is a CUV, although it uses a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) like the Air-Glide. It is considered a cross between a sedan and a sport utility vehicle (SUV) and adopts selected elements of both platforms. It measures 4295mm L x 1850mm W x 1677mm H. The wheelbase of the EV is 2,700mm, which offers more space for the rear passengers compared to the MG ZS EV.

In terms of design, the Windsor EV features 18-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights (DRL), vertically positioned LED headlights and taillights, an integrated spoiler and integrated door handles. There is an illuminated MG logo on the front next to the charging port. Inspired by the Wuling Cloud EV, MG’s latest electric vehicle in India also features a glass roof, which the company calls ‘Infinity View’.

Features of the MG Windsor EV

The Windsor EV’s cabin features a midnight black interior with 135-degree reclining (or aero lounge) seats, ambient lighting with 256 color options, a digital driver display, a 15.6-inch main infotainment system and other under-screen features , including WiFi Android Auto. And it supports Apple Carplay. Other interior features include a 9-way speaker system and rear air vents.

In five-passenger configuration, the Windsor EV features 60:40 split-folding rear seats, a 604-liter trunk and a power tailgate.

The electric vehicle is equipped with more than 80 connected car features, including the Bluetooth digital key equipped with the company’s i-SMART technology. Users can share their keys with others via their smartphone and do not have to hand over the physical keys while driving. It is equipped with artificial intelligence and accepts voice commands.

Engine, battery and safety of the MG Windsor EV

According to MG, the Windsor EV produces 134 hp and 200 Nm of torque from a permanent magnet synchronous electric motor mounted on the front axle. However, the company does not provide any information about the top speed. A lithium iron phosphate (LFP) cell battery with a capacity of 38 kWh is similar to the battery technology of the MG ZS EV. The cruising range should be up to 331 km on a single battery charge.

To ensure safety, the MG Windsor EV is equipped with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and a 360-degree camera. Also standard are six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), an electronic parking brake with automatic operation, disc brakes and a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).
