Kota, January 8 – A tragic incident occurred in Kota’s Jawahar Nagar area, where a JEE aspirant was found dead in his hostel room after allegedly hanging himself from a ceiling fan. The hostel owner discovered the incident while conducting routine room checks and immediately alerted the police and the student’s family.
Additional SP Dilip Saini confirmed that the deceased student, identified as Neeraj Jat (19), hailed from Mahendragarh, Haryana. Neeraj had been living in Kota for the past two years, preparing for the highly competitive Joint Entrance Examination (JEE). The incident is believed to have taken place on Tuesday night. His body has been placed in the mortuary at MBS Hospital, and a post-mortem will be conducted once his family arrives.
Incident Details
Neeraj was residing at Anand Kunj Residency Hostel in Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, one of Kota’s popular student accommodation areas. According to the hostel staff, Neeraj had gone out for dinner with a friend on Tuesday evening. They reported that he did not show any signs of stress or anxiety.
Later that night, during attendance checks, Neeraj did not respond or open the door. When staff peered through the ventilator, they discovered him hanging from the ceiling fan using a makeshift hanging device attached to a hook. The police noted the presence of a hanging device specially designed for fans, raising concerns about how students acquire such items.
Police Investigation Underway
Additional SP Saini stated that the investigation is ongoing, and they are awaiting the arrival of Neeraj’s family for further proceedings, including the post-mortem. No suicide note was found at the scene. Authorities are also speaking with friends and hostel staff to gather more details about the student’s recent behavior and circumstances leading up to the incident.
