Himachal CM Announces ₹1 Crore Reward for Kabaddi Gold Medalists

Shimla, October 5 (Udaipur Kiran) : Chief Minister Sukhu of Himachal Pradesh has announced a reward of ₹1 crore each for three players from the state who were part of the Indian women’s kabaddi team that clinched the gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games. The players, Pushpa Rana, Jyoti Thakur, and Bhavna Thakur, were recognized for their outstanding performance in the final match against Iran, where the team secured a 37-34 victory.

The victorious players met with the Chief Minister on Monday, where they received congratulations and were honored with traditional Himachali caps and shawls. During the meeting, Sukhu stated that the state government would soon hold a ceremony in their honor, during which they would receive the announced prize money.

In addition to the cash reward, Sukhu mentioned that the three players would also be offered employment in government services. For those not interested in joining the police department, positions will be provided in the Youth Services and Sports Department, allowing them to contribute to the promotion and development of sports in the state while continuing their athletic careers.

The Chief Minister highlighted that the state government has made significant changes to its sports policy, resulting in a historic increase in the reward amounts. He also emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening sports infrastructure across the state.

Furthermore, Sukhu announced a similar reward of ₹1 crore for Indian women’s cricket team player Renuka Thakur, honoring her remarkable achievements. The event was also attended by Health Minister Dr. (Colonel) Dhani Ram Shandil and the Chief Minister’s Media Advisor Naresh Chauhan.
