Tehran, March 8: Iran has launched an attack on an Israeli refinery following assaults on its energy infrastructure. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) confirmed the strike, stating that it targeted a refinery in Haifa, Israel, as retaliation for the recent U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran’s energy facilities.
In an official statement released through its news outlet, Sepah News, the IRGC reported that the attack on the Haifa refinery was executed using Khyber Shekan missiles. Meanwhile, the National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company indicated that the country’s energy infrastructure suffered damage during the U.S.-Israeli strikes on Saturday night.
The company noted that several oil depots in Tehran and Alborz provinces were hit by missiles, resulting in fires. Firefighting teams are currently working to control the blazes. Heavy attacks were also reported on Tehran, with loud explosions heard in various parts of the Iranian capital.
On February 28, Israel and the United States conducted joint strikes on Tehran and several other Iranian cities, resulting in the deaths of numerous individuals, including Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, some of his family members, high-ranking military commanders, and civilians. In response, Iran targeted Israeli and U.S. bases in the Middle East with missile and drone attacks.
Ali Larijani, Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, stated on Saturday that the aim of the U.S. and Israel is to fracture and divide the country. He urged U.S. President Donald Trump to acknowledge his mistakes and the deception by Israel.
Larijani emphasized that the Americans have left a deep wound on the hearts of the Iranian people, which will not be forgotten. In an interview with Al Arabiya, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif mentioned that he and his Saudi counterpart, Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, are in continuous contact, assuring that Saudi officials have guaranteed that their territory, airspace, or waters will not be used against Iran.
