Sunil Gavaskar Suggests Changes for T20 World Cup Final

Ahmedabad, March 8: The T20 World Cup 2026 final is set to take place on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, where India will face New Zealand. Ahead of this crucial match, former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar has expressed concerns over the form of opener Abhishek Sharma and has advised excluding him from the playing eleven.

Gavaskar stated, “Abhishek does not seem to be learning from his mistakes. Bowlers are consistently targeting the same area to trap him, but he is unable to adjust his strategy. In a high-stakes match like the final, the team should opt for stability and reliable options.”

He recommended sending Ishan Kishan to open the innings alongside Sanju Samson, replacing Abhishek with Rinku Singh, who is known for handling pressure in big matches.

Additionally, Gavaskar suggested including Kuldeep Yadav in place of Varun Chakravarthy in the playing eleven. According to him, Kuldeep’s spin could be effective on the large boundaries and flat pitch of the Narendra Modi Stadium.

Varun, who performed well in the group stage, has struggled in the Super 8 and semi-final matches, notably conceding 64 runs in 4 overs against England in the semi-final.

Abhishek Sharma has had a disappointing run in the T20 World Cup, failing to score in his first three matches and accumulating only 89 runs at an average of 12.71 across seven matches, with a lone half-century against Zimbabwe.

It remains to be seen whether the Indian team will stick with the same playing eleven from the semi-final or make adjustments for the final.
