Tehran, March 1: Iran has appointed Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi as its new Commander-in-Chief amidst escalating tensions following recent military operations. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) targeted several Iranian leaders, including General Mohammad Pakpour, in operations under “Operation Roaring Lion.”
According to Iranian media reports, Vahidi has been named the new head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). The IRGC announced on Sunday that the experienced military officer, who previously served as the Minister of Defense and Interior, had been acting as the interim chief for the past six months.
While Iranian officials have yet to issue an official statement regarding this appointment, it is believed to be a response to recent attacks on senior military and political leaders, highlighting significant disruptions within the country’s command structure.
The IRGC is an elite force responsible for the security of the Islamic Republic and for expanding Iran’s influence abroad. It plays a crucial role in Tehran’s security strategy and regional operations.
In related news, reports indicate that the death toll from a recent U.S.-Israeli attack on an elementary school for girls in the southern Iranian city of Minab has risen to 148. The attack occurred on Saturday, and the casualty figures continue to climb. Satellite imagery shows that the school was previously part of a military base but has been separate since at least 2016.
According to Iranian state media, the IRGC claims it is conducting a sixth round of attacks in retaliation for U.S. and Israeli bombings on Iran. The IRGC has launched “massive missile and drone” strikes on Israeli and U.S. military bases in the region.
They reported that 27 U.S. bases, along with the Israeli Tel Nof Airbase, the command headquarters of the Israeli army in Hakirya, and a major defense industrial complex in the same city, were targeted. The IRGC further stated that the Iranian military would take “a different and severe step” in retaliation.
