In a dramatic courtroom incident, Hanumangarh Superintendent of Police (SP) Arshad Ali was sent to judicial custody for two hours after allegedly misbehaving with a judicial officer during a court appearance in Jaipur. The incident occurred before Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Court No. 6 (ACJM-6), Metropolitan First, in connection with a long-pending case under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, IPC, and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Court Reacts Strongly to IPS Officer’s Behavior
SP Arshad Ali appeared in court on the basis of an arrest warrant, which had been issued after he failed to respond to multiple previous summonses and bailable warrants issued since 2019. When asked to record his testimony, the officer objected to the warrant and argued that he could have appeared via video conferencing. The presiding officer, Judge Kalpana Pareek, responded that such a request should have been submitted in writing beforehand.
What followed was an alleged act of misbehavior and verbal disrespect from the IPS officer toward the judge. In response, the court ordered chalani guards to take the SP into two-hour judicial custody, citing contemptuous conduct in the courtroom.
Officer Apologizes, Court Allows Testimony on Humanitarian Grounds
After serving the brief custody, SP Ali returned to the courtroom and issued an apology, citing health concerns. In a humanitarian gesture, the court allowed him to sit during the recording of his statement and continued with proceedings. His testimony was finally recorded—bringing progress to a case that had been stalled due to his repeated absence.
Background of the Case and SP’s Role
The case dates back to when Arshad Ali was serving as an ASP in the SOG. He had himself lodged the FIR in the matter and is the primary complainant. The accused in the case include Satish, Badri Prasad, Ramakant, Jugal Kishore, Shivhari, Sunil, and Munna.
