iPhone 17 Series May Support 8K Video Recording, Tipster Claims

In a significant leap forward for Apple’s camera technology, a credible tipster has revealed that the upcoming iPhone 17 series may finally support 8K video recording. This move would mark Apple’s entry into the ultra-high-resolution video segment, long dominated by Android competitors.

Apple iPhone 17 Series

A Long-Awaited Feature for iPhones

While many Android smartphones have supported 8K video recording for years, Apple has been notably absent from the race. Although the iPhone 16 series was reportedly capable of high-resolution video, the company never fully utilized the hardware. Internal sources suggest Apple had plans to implement 8K recording with the iPhone 16 lineup, but hardware limitations—specifically, the telephoto sensor—stood in the way.

Telephoto Sensor: The Missing Piece

Currently, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus offer 4K recording at up to 60fps, while the Pro and Pro Max models can capture 4K at up to 120fps. However, recording in 8K resolution requires a sensor of approximately 35MP, far beyond the iPhone’s existing 12MP setup. Apple reportedly hesitated to enable 8K recording because it would have restricted users from seamlessly switching between camera lenses during recording, creating a fragmented user experience.

Android vs. Apple: A Resolution Race

Android phone manufacturers have long prioritized maximum camera sensor capabilities, including offering 8K video across multiple lenses. If the rumors about the iPhone 17 prove true, Apple will likely upgrade its telephoto sensor, enabling it to compete with the best in the Android ecosystem. This could also enhance Apple’s standing in the professional videography and content creator market.
