Greater Noida, May 30 — In a thrilling contest at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex, African Lions registered their first win in the Intercontinental Legends Championship, defeating Asian Kings by 6 wickets on Thursday night.

Asian Kings Collapse After Promising Start
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Asian Kings suffered an early blow in the third over as opener Parvez Aziz fell cheaply for 8. Although skipper Tillakaratne Dilshan, the former Sri Lankan stalwart, tried to anchor the innings with a composed 26, consistent wicket falls from the other end kept the pressure on.
Middle-order batter Umang Sharma contributed 31 runs, attempting to steady the ship, but Dilshan’s dismissal in the sixth over triggered a collapse. Imtiaz played a crucial knock of 35 runs late in the innings, guiding Asian Kings to a fighting total of 138 runs.
Rahul Yadav’s Blistering Knock Sets the Tone
In response, African Lions, led by former South African great Herschelle Gibbs, made light work of the chase. Opener Rahul Yadav launched a blistering assault with a match-defining 54-run knock, setting the tone for a dominant performance.
He received ample support from Shekhar Sirohi (22) and Shivam Sharma (21), while Ali Murtaza’s quickfire 18 off just 5 balls sealed the game with ease in just 16.4 overs, handing the Lions a convincing 6-wicket victory.
Chris Mofu Named Player of the Match
With the ball, Chris Mofu was the standout performer for the African Lions. He claimed 3 wickets for 27 runs in his 4-over spell, stifling Asian Kings’ momentum and earning the Player of the Match award for his all-round impact.
The African Lions’ comprehensive win has boosted their confidence in the tournament, while Asian Kings will look to regroup and bounce back stronger in their next fixture.
