INTACH Udaipur Chapter Charts Bold Path for Heritage Conservation and Cultural Revival

Udaipur, June 7 – The Executive Committee of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), Udaipur Chapter, convened a significant meeting under the leadership of Chapter Convener Gaurav Singhvi. The committee devised actionable plans to protect the region’s architectural, natural, and cultural legacy, marking a strategic step toward preserving the city’s historic identity.

The meeting was attended by Co-convener Sushil Dashora, Dr. B.P. Bhatnagar, M.L. Nagda, Sunil Vashistha, Ranu Singhvi, Rahul Bhatnagar, and Priyanka Vaishnav.

Focus on Traditional Art Restoration

A key highlight of the discussion was the preservation and restoration of the traditional Phad and Gauri painting styles. The committee agreed to initiate revival efforts with expert consultation and proposed the acquisition of relevant publications to support in-depth research and documentation of these unique folk art forms.

Convener Singhvi also presented a compilation of 70 traditional folk tales written under the “Gavri Project.” These stories form the core of the annual Gavri performances—ritualistic tribal folk dramas of the Mewar region—showcasing a continued commitment to preserving Rajasthan’s rich performance heritage.

Reviving Udaipur’s Architectural Marvels

A major preservation initiative was proposed for the historic Field Club building, established in 1932. INTACH will formally offer its technical expertise to the club’s management for a comprehensive restoration project that aims to restore the structure’s former grandeur while maintaining its heritage integrity.

In an effort to rescue forgotten landmarks, the committee also resolved to request a list of unused or neglected heritage properties (known as “Nazool properties”) from the Sub-Divisional Officer, with the goal of initiating conservation work on these historically significant sites.

Grand Celebration Planned for Udaipur Foundation Day

The committee unanimously decided to celebrate Udaipur Foundation Day on December 1, 2025, with grandeur. The theme for the upcoming celebration will be “Enriching Udaipur’s Educational Legacy”, focusing on the city’s scholarly contributions over the centuries.

In a strong show of support, committee member M.L. Nagda pledged ₹3 lakh, while Sunil Vashistha committed ₹1.5 lakh toward the Foundation Day programs and heritage activities.

Strengthening Environmental Stewardship

The meeting also laid emphasis on ecological consciousness. Wildlife and Forestry Day will be celebrated under the direction of Rahul Bhatnagar, while a city-wide tree plantation drive will be spearheaded by Sunil Vashistha.

A creative awareness project was also approved—developing a live-scale model of the Sajjangarh Fort to promote rainwater harvesting. This model is expected to serve both as a public education tool and a tribute to traditional water management systems of Rajasthan.

In his closing remarks, Convener Gaurav Singhvi extended heartfelt gratitude to all members for their dedication and support in shaping Udaipur’s sustainable and culturally vibrant future.
