Lucknow, May 16: In an exciting match at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) secured a 7-wicket victory over the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2026. Mitchell Marsh played a pivotal role in the win with his explosive innings, earning him the Player of the Match award.
After the match, Marsh expressed his satisfaction, stating, “It feels good to win. Such victories have been rare for us this season, so it’s gratifying.”
Reflecting on his partnership with Jos Inglis, which yielded 135 runs off 70 balls for the first wicket, Marsh said, “It was a good partnership. He takes the pressure off me.”
Although LSG has been eliminated from playoff contention, Marsh believes the win will boost the team’s confidence. He praised his teammates, saying, “We have some really good young players in this group, and I’m enjoying playing with these guys.”
Chasing a target of 188 runs, Marsh’s explosive innings made the chase seem straightforward. The right-handed batsman scored 90 runs off just 38 balls, hitting 7 sixes and 9 fours. Inglis contributed with 36 runs off 32 balls, while Nicholas Pooran and Mukul Chaudhary added 32 and 13 runs, respectively.
Earlier, CSK batted first after losing the toss, scoring 187 runs for the loss of 5 wickets. Karthik Sharma was the standout performer for CSK, scoring 71 runs off 42 balls, while Shivam Dube and Dewald Brevis chipped in with 32 and 25 runs, respectively.
For LSG, Akash Maharaj Singh was impressive with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 26 runs in 4 overs.
Following this match, CSK has slipped to sixth place in the points table with 12 points from 12 matches, having won 6 and lost 6. LSG, on the other hand, sits at the bottom of the table with their fourth win of the season.
