Shimla, March 19 – Himachal Pradesh is set to witness rain and snowfall over the next three days as cloud cover persists across the state. Tourist destinations such as Shimla and Manali are experiencing intermittent sunshine amidst cloudy skies. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), snowfall is expected in high-altitude areas of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Kullu, and Chamba districts until March 21. The weather is predicted to clear up from March 22 to 25.

Avalanche Risk in Four Districts, Orange and Yellow Alerts Issued
Authorities have issued an avalanche warning for snow-covered areas, urging residents to remain cautious. The Defense Geoinformatics Research Establishment (DGRE), Chandigarh, has identified Chamba, Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu, Kinnaur, and Shimla as high-risk zones. An Orange Alert has been issued for Chamba and Lahaul-Spiti, while a Yellow Alert is in place for Kullu and Kinnaur.
Cold Intensifies in Higher Reaches, Plains Witness Stable Weather
Although no major rainfall or snowfall was recorded in the past 24 hours, cold conditions have intensified in the hills. The plains remain sunny during the day, but night temperatures have dipped significantly. Tribal areas, in particular, are witnessing sub-zero temperatures, leading to severe cold conditions.

18% Above Average Rainfall Recorded in March
Himachal Pradesh has recorded 18% higher than average rainfall this March, bringing much-needed relief to water reservoirs and agriculture. However, excessive snowfall has led to road blockages, particularly in tribal regions. Over 100 roads remain blocked in Lahaul-Spiti, while three dozen roads remain shut in Chamba and Kullu due to heavy snow accumulation.
