Glasgow, July 29: Gulveer Singh of India clinched a silver medal in the men’s 10,000 meters final at the Commonwealth Games 2026, held late Tuesday night (Indian time). In a remarkable performance at the Scotstoun Stadium, Gulveer finished the race with a time of 27:49.78 seconds, securing second place. The gold medal was won by Australia’s Kai Robinson with a time of 27:48.93 seconds, while David Mularkey from the Isle of Man took home the bronze with a time of 27:50.28 seconds.
Gulveer completed the first 400 meters in 1:13.5 seconds and finished the 5,000 meters in 14:16.1 seconds. Gold medalist Robinson completed the same distance in 14:16.2 seconds but gradually increased his pace afterward. Mularkey, who finished third, covered the halfway mark in 14:16.5 seconds.
Born on June 1, 1998, in Sirsa village of Aligarh district, Uttar Pradesh, Gulveer serves as a Naib Subedar in the Indian Army. His running journey began on the village roads and fields while preparing for his recruitment in the army.
After joining the Grenadiers Regiment in 2018, he has consistently progressed in Indian athletics, becoming one of the country’s leading distance runners. Gulveer gained international recognition by winning a bronze medal in the 5,000 meters at the 2023 Asian Athletics Championships and another bronze in the 10,000 meters at the 2022 Asian Games.
In 2025, he achieved new heights by winning two gold medals in the 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters at the Asian Athletics Championships held in South Korea, establishing himself as a top long-distance runner in Asia.
Gulveer holds several national records in the 5,000 meters, 10,000 meters, mile, and half marathon. In 2025, he became the first Indian to run a mile in under 4 minutes with a time of 3:55.63 and complete a half marathon in under 60 minutes with a time of 59:42. He also made history by finishing the 5,000 meters indoor race in 12:59.77, becoming the first Asian athlete to break the 13-minute barrier and setting a new Asian record.
