Food Safety Special Drive: Inspection Conducted at Sweet Shops in Udaipur, Samples Collected for Lab Testing

Udaipur, March 16: On the occasion of Holi festivities and following directives from Udaipur District’s Chief Medical and Health Officer Dr. Ashok Aditya, and District Collector Namely, Food Safety Officer Ashok Kumar Gupta carried out detailed inspections of prominent sweet establishments in Udaipur today. The inspections were aimed at ensuring food quality, hygiene standards, and compliance with food safety regulations under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.

Inspection at Leading Sweet Shops

Under the ongoing special drive, Food Safety Officer Ashok Kumar Gupta inspected the renowned sweet shop M/s Bikaner Mishthan Bhandar located at Bohra Ganeshji, Udaipur. He collected samples of various food products, including Malai Barfi, for laboratory testing. Samples have been dispatched to the designated laboratory for detailed quality analysis.

Following information provided by the District Surveillance Team (DST), Udaipur, further sampling action was conducted at M/s Ambe Milk Products, Badgaon, where multiple discrepancies were identified. Apart from sample collection, it was observed that the establishment had not displayed the mandatory Food Safety Display Board. Additionally, the firm had failed to maintain required documentation, including water quality and pest control reports, as prescribed under the law.

Strict Action for Non-Compliance

Highlighting the seriousness of food safety compliance, officials emphasized stringent actions for violations. Under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 (Section 32), penalties range from heavy fines (₹1 lakh to ₹10 lakh) and imprisonment (from six months to life imprisonment) depending on the severity of violations found.

Samples Sent for Laboratory Testing

Collected samples from Bikaner Misthan Bhandar, Bohra Ganesh Ji, Udaipur, included various sweet items such as Malai Barfi, which were immediately dispatched to an accredited laboratory for analysis. Simultaneously, samples from Ambe Milk Products were also sent for examination. Once laboratory test reports are received, further legal actions will be initiated accordingly.

Improvement Notices Issued

Establishments found non-compliant have been directed to adhere strictly to the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. Firms failing to maintain proper hygiene records, water testing reports, and pest control documentation will face legal actions unless they rectify violations immediately.
