Hyderabad, June 21: A major incident was narrowly avoided on Sunday in Karimnagar district of Telangana when an electric bus caught fire, endangering the lives of over 40 passengers onboard. The bus, operated by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC), was en route from Karimnagar to Hyderabad.
The fire broke out near Alugunur in the Timmapur mandal. According to police reports, smoke was seen emanating from the engine as the bus approached Alugunur. The driver promptly stopped the bus and alerted the passengers, allowing everyone to evacuate safely.
Within moments, the bus was engulfed in flames. Fire department teams arrived at the scene and managed to extinguish the fire, but by then, the entire bus had been reduced to ashes.
There were a total of 41 passengers on board, and fortunately, no casualties were reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and police have registered a case to look into the matter.
This incident is not the first of its kind involving TSRTC’s electric buses. Earlier, on March 29, another electric bus parked at a depot in Hanumakonda was completely destroyed by fire due to a short circuit.
In another incident on the same day, a container truck overturned in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, causing significant traffic congestion. This accident occurred near Boralagudam in the Choutuppal mandal.
While there were no injuries reported from the truck accident, the overturned vehicle severely impacted traffic on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada National Highway, halting the movement of vehicles coming from Vijayawada in Andhra Pradesh to Hyderabad. Police deployed two cranes to remove the container truck, which was carrying solar energy equipment, and diverted traffic at certain points to alleviate the situation.
