Dambulla, June 21: In an exhilarating final of the Tri-Series between India A and Sri Lanka A at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium, Vaibhav Suryaanshi showcased his extraordinary batting skills. He scored a blistering 94 runs off just 29 balls, completing his half-century in a record-breaking 11 balls. This remarkable performance has set a new world record in List A cricket.
Vaibhav’s record for the fastest half-century in List A cricket surpasses the previous record held by Kaushalya Weeraratne, who achieved a half-century in 12 balls back in the 2005-06 season. Additionally, he broke the record for the fastest half-century by an Indian in List A cricket, previously held by Sarfaraz Khan, who scored his half-century in 15 balls during the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
Although Vaibhav fell short of a century, his explosive start helped the Indian team reach 100 runs in just 6.3 overs. He partnered with Priyansh Arya to put together a formidable opening stand of 132 runs in just 8.5 overs. The Sri Lankan bowlers struggled to contain the onslaught from the young batsman, who had previously faced challenges in the series.
In the second over of his innings, Vaibhav launched an aggressive attack on Sri Lankan bowler Shiraz, hitting three sixes and two fours to accumulate 26 runs. Having played 12 List A matches since his debut in 2024, Vaibhav has already made a significant impact, including a remarkable innings of 190 runs for Bihar.
