‘Dhurandhar,’ now in its fourth week, continues to dominate the box office despite the arrival of new films like ‘Avatar Fire And Ash’ and ‘Tu Meri Main Tera Main Tera Tu Meri’ (TMMTMTTM).
The Kartik Aaryan and Ananya Panday starrer romcom faced challenges in securing screens due to the stronghold of ‘Dhurandhar’ and the major James Cameron release ‘Avatar Fire And Ash.’ However, even ‘Avatar Fire And Ash’ is trailing behind ‘Dhurandhar’ in collections.
TMMTMTTM opened on Christmas Day, December 25, with a respectable Rs 7.50 crore but received mixed reviews. Its earnings dropped to Rs 5 crore on the second day. In comparison, ‘Dhurandhar’ earned Rs 15 crore on Friday, marking its 21st day in theatres. On its 23rd day, ‘Dhurandhar’ collected Rs 15.17 crore, bringing its total box office collection to Rs 662.67 crore.
Meanwhile, ‘Tu Meri Main Tera’ earned Rs 3.03 crore by Friday evening, according to Sacnilk, taking its total to Rs 16.03 crore so far.
The fourth week is proving to be a significant period for ‘Dhurandhar,’ with expectations to add nearly Rs 100 crore nett due to the holiday season and weekend surge. Currently, the record for the biggest fourth week belongs to ‘Pushpa 2,’ which earned about Rs 50 crore nett. Given ‘Dhurandhar’s’ current performance, it is likely to surpass this record comfortably over the weekend.
The film’s success also highlights that strategies like discounted ticket pricing, complimentary passes, and promotional offers are not necessary when genuine audience demand exists. Unlike some recent releases that have used such tactics to inflate numbers artificially, the makers of ‘Dhurandhar’ maintained premium pricing and relied on organic footfalls to achieve its strong box office impact.
