Coal India Rises After Signing MoU with CMDC for Critical Mineral Exploration

Mumbai, October 7 (Udaipur Kiran): Shares of Coal India gained over 1% in Monday’s trading session after the company announced the signing of a Non-Binding Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Chhattisgarh Mineral Development Corporation (CMDC) to jointly explore and develop critical minerals and other minerals of mutual interest.

The stock is currently trading at ₹386.45, up ₹4.40 or 1.15% from its previous close of ₹382.05 on the BSE. It opened at ₹384.05 and touched an intraday high of ₹388.90 and a low of ₹383.95. A total of 2,47,205 shares have been traded so far.

Over the past 52 weeks, the stock has recorded a high of ₹502.20 (October 14, 2024) and a low of ₹349.20 (February 17, 2025). In the last week, it moved between ₹394.85 and ₹380.10. The company’s current market capitalization stands at ₹2,38,836.54 crore.

The promoter holding in Coal India stands at 63.13%, while institutional investors hold 30.92% and non-institutional investors own 5.94%.

The collaboration with CMDC, a Chhattisgarh State Government undertaking, marks Coal India’s strategic entry into the critical minerals segment — a key area for supporting India’s energy transition and industrial growth.

Coal India is the world’s largest coal mining company, producing both coking and non-coking coal across multiple grades for diverse industrial applications.
