Cybercrimes are on the rise across the country. Recently, a woman in Chandigarh lost Rs 8 lakh due to SIM card fraud. He reportedly received a call from a fraudster posing as a police officer, informing him that the SIM card registered on his Aadhaar card was suspected of being used for illegal activities.
Fearing arrest, the victim complied with the informant’s request and transferred the money.
As per Department of Communications (DoT) guidelines, a user can get up to 9 mobile numbers under one ID.
Aadhaar card is one of the most commonly accepted documents by operators for issuing new SIM cards.
Cases of fraud using someone else’s Aadhaar information are on the rise. DoT has launched an online portal – Telecom Analytics for Fraud Management and Consumer Protection (TAF-COP) to verify the number of mobile numbers registered in Aadhaar cards.
To check the number of SIM cards issued for an Aadhaar card:
• Visit TAFCOP website: https://tafcop.sancharsaathi.gov.in/telecomUser/
• Enter your mobile phone number in the field provided.
• Enter the captcha and click “Request OTP”.
• Enter your OTP and click Sign In.

• Make sure all valid cell phone numbers belong to you or your relatives.
• If in doubt, see option 03 on this website. “Not my number,” “Not required,” and “Required.”
You can also report or block numbers that don’t belong to you using the TAF-COP portal. You can report a non-family member’s number on your ID by clicking “Not My Number.”
