A train accident occurred in Gonda, Uttar Pradesh, India. 15 bogies of the Chandigarh-Dibrugarh Express, including 3 AC coaches, derailed. 3 of the derailed coaches overturned. 5 passengers have died in the accident and 25 passengers are injured. 2 passengers have their legs severed. Most of the injured passengers are reported to be from the AC coaches.
After the accident, passengers broke the window panes and jumped out. Railway officials rushed to the spot upon receiving information about the incident. Rescue operations have begun. An SDRF team has reached the spot.
The train (15904) was going from Chandigarh to Dibrugarh. The accident occurred between Jhilahi railway station and Gosai Dihwa. It is 30 km from Ayodhya and 130 km from Lucknow.
The train left Chandigarh at 11:39 pm on Thursday. It overturned near Jhilahi station on Thursday afternoon. A passenger on the train said that the accident happened 20 km from Gonda at around 2:30 pm. Mankapur station is 5 km from here.
ACS Home and Principal Secretary Health are monitoring the Gonda train accident. The Relief Commissioner has also been deployed for coordination. Instructions have been given to provide better medical facilities to the injured. 2 trains have been canceled on this route. 11 trains have been diverted.
The accident is so horrific that many coaches of the train have fallen 100 meters away from the track. Passengers broke the window panes of the AC coach coaches and came out. Disturbing footage of the accident has surfaced. In this, two passengers are seen with their legs severed. Injured passengers are being taken away from the spot after being lifted from cots.
