New Delhi, 25 July : The Central Government has imposed a ban on 25 OTT platforms accused of broadcasting obscene content. On 23 July, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting directed the blocking of websites and apps of these platforms for circulating pornographic and inappropriate material.

Action Taken After Multi-Agency Consultation
According to the official notification, this action was taken after consultations with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, Department of Legal Affairs, industry bodies FICCI and CII, as well as experts working in the fields of women’s and children’s rights.
List of Blocked Platforms
The banned OTT platforms include: Big Shot App, Desifilix, Boomex, NyonX, Navras Lite, Gulab App, Kangan App, Bull App, Show Hit, Jalwa App, Wao Entertainment, Look Entertainment, Hit Prime, Phugi, Pheno, ShowX, Soul Talkies, Adda TV, ALT, Hot VIP, Hulchul App, MoodX, Treeflix, Ullu, and Mojflix.
Government Invokes IT Act and Rules
The ministry stated that notices were issued to various intermediaries using provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the IT Rules, 2021. This was done to ensure that access to the websites and apps of the concerned platforms is effectively disabled.
