Assam police fly with 3 JMB suspects arrested in Tripura

Agartala, April 17 : The five-member Assam police team flew to Guwahati on Sunday with three Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen of Bangladesh (JMB) operatives who were arrested on April 9 from a bordering village of Sonamura in Sepahijala district of West Tripura. According to the report, Sonamura Chief Judicial Magistrate on Saturday granted transit remand for three accused after scrutinizing the case diary of Assam police and prime faces evidence of the allegation against the arrested persons of their involvement in anti-national activities. Tripura police had detained Imran Hossain (24), Imam in a local mosque, Abul Kashem (33), a teacher and Hamid Ali (38), a farmer of Khaidyakhala village under Jatrapur police station area on April 3 last based on the input of Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB) and later they were booked under several non-bailable sections accusing them of involvement in anti-national activities. Based on the police claim, the court had initially sent them to jail for three days but later police couldn’t produce any evidence to prove their link with JMB and failed to justify the slapping of 120(B), 121, 124(a) of IPC and Sections 13(2), 18, 18(b), 38 and 39 of Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) on them. As a result, the court granted them bail on April 8 and asked them to report to Jatrapur police station after every alternative day. Assam police on the next day arrested them in connection with a sedition case registered with the Jogighopa police station of Bongaigaon. They were produced before the court seeking transit remand to Assam but the court didn’t agree instead summoning police to submit a case diary and evidence of their claim on April 16 after the counsel of the accused persons claimed it was ‘intentional and harassment on religious ground’. Accordingly, the trio was produced before the court on Saturday and after hearing the submissions of both sides, the court allowed the prayer of Assam police for transit remand. The court directed Assam police to produce the three suspects before Abhaypur Sub Divisional Judicial Magistrate in Bongaigaon district on Monday. BB ARN
