New Delhi, August 17: Air India has announced that all its flights operating to and from Visakhapatnam International Airport will now be conducted from the new Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Bhogapuram starting August 17. The airport code will remain VTZ.

The airline stated it will continue to operate 14 flights weekly between Bhogapuram and Delhi, providing customers connectivity to major domestic and international destinations through its hub.

Spanning 77,342 square meters, the new terminal offers enhanced comfort and operational efficiency for passengers. It features 22 traditional check-in counters, 18 self-baggage drop units, an advanced screening system, state-of-the-art baggage handling facilities, and seven aerobridges.

The airport will operate under the IATA code VTZ, which will be transferred from the existing Visakhapatnam Airport. However, officials noted that the current airport will still be used for defense and police operations, VIP movements, and unscheduled special flights.

Under the current aviation timetable, the flight schedule for Bhogapuram Airport will remain in effect until October 24, 2026. Air India will operate multiple daily flights between Bhogapuram and Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Vijayawada, enhancing air connectivity in Andhra Pradesh and neighboring states.

According to the new schedule, there will be two flights daily from Hyderabad to Bhogapuram, providing convenient travel between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Additionally, two daily flights from Bengaluru to Bhogapuram will be available, with an extra return service on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

The Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport in Bhogapuram was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on August 1 and serves the Visakhapatnam metropolitan area.
