Lucknow : A total of 22.62 per cent of 2.13 crore voters had exercised their franchise till 11 am for 59 seats spread over nine districts in the fourth phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on Wednesday.
According to the Chief Electoral Officer, a maximum of 27.44 per cent votes were polled in Pilibhit district and 20.13 per cent in Hardoi. Among other districts, 26.28 per cent votes were polled in Lakhimpur Kheri, 22.13 per cent in Sitapur, 21.36 per cent in Unnao, 21.41 per cent in Lucknow, 21.42 per cent in Rae Bareli, 23.92 per cent in Banda and 22.52 per cent in Fatehpur.
The Samajwadi Party claimed irregularities at a number of places including Lucknow, Unnao, Hardoi and Rae Bareli. Prominent leaders who exercised their franchise included Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati, Deputy Chief Minister Dr Dinesh Sharma, Union Minister Kaushal Kishore, Uttar Pradesh Ministers Brijesh Pathak, Ashutosh Tandon and Mahendra Singh.
